The Picture House (2.5* / 3*)

Ian’s 2.5* review…

We saw this company promoting their musical on the Royal Mile.  We liked the costumes, and they gave us the chat, and the tickets were half price so we went along.

The singing was good, there were some nice songs, and the plot was adequate if unsubstantial, but overall I just don’t have any feelings about this work.  I don’t like it or dislike it, it wasn’t irritating or funny.  It was a pleasant enough hour, but it just wasn’t quite satisfying…  I don’t have a bad word to say about it though…

Ruth’s 3* review…

This was a musical about a woman who runs a cinema during the second world war. We picked this show because we saw them singing on the Royal Mile and they were very good. They didn’t let us down, the singing was excellent in fact it was probably better than many of the professional touring musicals we see in Edinburgh. The show was charming, but somehow lacking in content. Not an awful lot happened. It was fine in all respects, but… meh.
